“The Prayer” was originally a duet between Céline Dion and Andrea Bocelli. It’s the second single from Céline’s Christmas album These Are Special Times. It was released as a promotional single on March 1, 1999.

“The Prayer” won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song from the Quest for Camelot movie in 1999, the second win in a row for a Céline Dion song. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1999 and a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 2000. Céline performed it with Andrea Bocelli at both ceremonies.

This performance is performed live with Josh Groban, during Céline’s CBS TV special That’s Just the Woman in Me, aired on February 15, 2008. This version was released as a music download in the U.S and Canada, two days earlier. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 70 and appeared on few other Billboard charts: Pop 100 at number 50, Hot Digital Songs at number 32 and Hot Digital Tracks at number 29. The single has sold 37,531 copies in its first week. In Canada, the song peaked at number 37 on the Canadian Hot 100 and number 19 on the Canadian Top Digital Downloads.

Josh Groban also sang “The Prayer” live with Céline 8 years earlier, at the Concert for World Children’s Day in 2002. The two first sang the song together in 1999, when Groban filled in for Andrea Bocelli at rehearsal for the 1999 Grammy Awards.

“Something” is a song released by The Beatles in 1969. It was featured on the album Abbey Road, and was also the first song written by George Harrison to appear on the A-side of a Beatles single. “Something” was the only Harrison composition to top the American charts while he was in The Beatles.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney both praised “Something” as among the best songs Harrison had written. As well as critical acclaim, the single achieved commercial success, topping the Billboard charts in the United States, and entering the top 10 in the United Kingdom. The song has been covered by over 150 artists including Elvis Presley, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, James Brown, Julio Iglesias, Smokey Robinson and Joe Cocker, and is the second-most covered Beatles song after “Yesterday”.

“Taking Chances” was written by Kara DioGuardi and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics. It was produced by John Shanks. The song served as the lead single and title track of Céline’s 2007 record. The music video was directed by Paul Boyd and has a James Bond theme.

The single was successful on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, peaking at number 1 and becoming Céline’s second song to do so, after “Misled” in 1994. It reached the top position on the Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart, and was a top 10 hit in Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, France, and Canada where it was certified gold for selling over 20,000 digital downloads. “Taking Chances” also peaked at number 6 on the U.S. Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, giving Céline ownership of the most top 10 hits at the format with 21 during the last two decades.

After a brief hiatus, Your Daily Céline returns with one of Céline’s best!

“That’s the Way It Is” was the lead single from the greatest hits compilation All the Way… A Decade of Song, released on November 1, 1999. The song was written and produced by a team under the direction of Swedish producers Max Martin and Kristian Lundin, who have written a string of pop hits for artists such as *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. Céline would later work with Kristian on her hits “I’m Alive” and “Eyes On Me.”

I was lucky enough to see Céline debut the song live with *NSYNC when I attended the taping of her All The Way TV special at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

“That’s The Way It Is” became a hit, going to number 1 on the adult contemporary charts in the United States and Canada, and reaching top 10 all over the world. It was Céline’s first airplay-only single that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 6 (number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay). The commercial single was released nine months later as a double A-side with “I Want You to Need Me,” reaching number 62 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales.

According to Billboard, “That’s the Way It Is” received the “BDS Certified Spin Award - 500,000 Spins” in August 2006. Since the song was released in November 1999, it has cycled 500,000 times on almost 1400 radio stations across Canada and the U.S.

Despite its success, Céline rarely performs the song live. It was performed twice on her Let’s Talk About Love World Tour and was not included in A new day… or on her Taking Chances World Tour.
